VaranusWeb

ImageThank you for visiting us at VaranusWeb. We invite you to take a look around...we think you'll find something of interest here whether you are looking for info on building your own, or want to learn more about the world of monitor lizards and other reptiles. As you go through this site we hope you will enjoy yourself and have a little fun looking at some cool pictures and checking out some links to other sites.

We have several goals for this site: First, is to be a resource for those of you that want to build your own web site. Not everyone wants to, or can afford to, hire a professional to design and implement their site, and there is also a tremendous satisfaction in putting together your own site and presenting it on the Internet for all the world to see. We hope we can help you if this is your desire.

In the same spirit, we also want to help promote the Open Source community. Don't know what Open Source is? Picture this...all the software that we used to put together this site - the images, template, content management system, text editor, ftp program, etc. - was free. We have many links on this site to the Open Source community, so we won't go into a lengthy definition here, but basically it is thousands and thousands of software developers worldwide creating software for public use. We owe these people a tremendous debt of gratitude, and we hope you will join us in supporting this community.

Last, it is one of our goals to help promote the conservation of reptiles and amphibians worldwide. If you don't know, "Varanus" is the genus for monitor lizards...you've probably heard of Varanus komodoensis or the Komodo Dragon. But this is just the most famous of the Monitor lizards, and other "not-so-pretty" creatures, that need our help to survive. As you click on our portfolio links, you will certainly notice that many of the sites we have done are reptile-related...we have been working with reptiles for many years, and doing herpetology-related web sites has been a natural extension for us.

We hope you enjoy your visit, and be sure to "click around" and start exploring the world of Open Source and, if so inclined, the wonderful world of Monitor Lizards and other reptiles. Thanks for visiting!
